Following inconclusive investigations by another site investigation contractor, William Hunt Consulting were asked to investigate a void that had developed at the front of an historically significant property in Matlock. The property, located on a steeply sloping site, suddenly developed a hole in the front garden several months before we were asked to attend.
Our investigation comprised drainage surveys together with boreholes and dynamic probing. The investigation identified that the hole in the front garden leading to the void had developed due to the failure of a concrete cap over what is believed to be an old light well providing front access to the lower ground floor. The material used to fill the light well had consolidated over time prompting the failure of the cap.
During our investigation we were able to complete a camera survey of the void which confirmed the size of the light well structure together with the nature of its construction. The information and data gathered during our site investigation has assisted both our client and the homeowner in establishing the next steps to take by providing a sound understanding of the issue below the front garden.
